Heart of The Earth Skin Healing + Antiviral Salve // Awaken the Healer + Remember Joy
This beautiful salve came into being back in the Summer for a special plant medicine event at which I was honoured to be invited. Self Heal (Prunella Vulgaris) and Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) are among the most beautiful, sweetest, and most potent medicinal plants, thriving in our medicine garden. I've created many potions with them, love them in my teas, infused oils and salves. Both plants are members of the mint family and are very versatile. Some studies suggest that when applied topically, these plant allies may help manage herpes and cold sore outbreaks by providing relief and reducing blisters. I have worked with both plants internally and topically to treat colds, swollen lymph nodes, and healing cold sores with great results.
The salve has a deep green colour and smells so beautiful. Topically, it can be worked with during outbreaks of cold sores, as well as for dealing with swollen lymph nodes, sore throats, cuts, wounds, burns, bruises, and skin irritations. May provide support for skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. It can be applied to nourish the skin, as lip balm, and potentially support the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen, or massaged on the belly, temples, and heart to ease cramps, headaches, and to uplift your spirit, or when you need some love and support.
Self Heal is such a beautiful plant and spreads happily around the garden. I adore her leaves and stunning purple flowers. Many baskets of Self Heal have been gathered, and many medicines made. She is often called Heal All, or Heart of the Earth, which inspired the name for this salve. They are absolutely amazing as a lymphatic remedy, effectively used to treat swollen glands, tonsillitis, breast cysts, boils, and mastitis. When applied topically, Self Heal promotes tissue repair and has the ability to soothe and restore the skin when it becomes irritated or inflamed. Self Heal can be applied on all types of wounds or bites, massaged onto swollen glands, and worked with to help ease headaches. Research shows that Self Heal has been a supportive ally during c@ncer treatment. Energetically, Self Heal reminds of the healer within affirming that each of us is fully capable of healing ourselves, as we are the medicine. She encourages us to recognise our resilience, take charge of our personal healing journey, especially when we are at the verge of giving up, and instils in us a sense of confidence and optimism about the future.
Lemon Balm is one of the first plants I grew from seeds and one of the most delicious and fragrant beings. They are pure joy, expansion and happiness. They have many medicinal applications with the affinity for the heart, nervous + digestive + immune systems. They are calming and grounding, and so uplifting to the spirit. They are supportive in treating viral infections like colds, flu, herpes, and chickenpox. Effective for cold sore outbreaks and healing to the skin, supporting hyaluronic acid and collagen.
